Problem with viewer window

I have a small problem with my final cut pro that is probably very easy to fix but i am just overlooking something.

When i open a file in the viewer the video or still frame comes up fine but when i switch to any of the tabs such as filters, motion etc the window is not sized properly and in order to fix it i have to maximize and minimize button at the top of the viewer.

I am aware that window settings are stored somewhere but i do not know how to find the file. Simply deleting this file may fix it if there is no other way to reset how the windows open.

Any help with this would be great, thank you.

"not sized properly" is a bit vague, can you describe in more detail?
