time codes from vhs

Hello all

This may be a bit basic but I have a vhs video, that I need to get into my computer, the problem is that it is time coded across the top middle of the screen.
Is there any way of removing it as i bring it in to the computer?
Or do I have to go back to the base source?

thanks in advance

Lee

Lee,
Sounds like what you have is a 'window dub'. Someone has given you a copy of the original source, and burned a timecode onto the screen for reference puposes.

No, it can't be removed. It's now part of your image. (IF I understand you correctly.) Your only choice is to 'enlarge' the image so that the code is off screen. (Most NLE's will have a way to do this). But you will suffer some overall image degredation. Otherwise, it's get hold of the original source tapes.
