Timeline format for Doc project with XDCam HD & XDcam Ex footage

Hello,

I'm editing a one hour doc with equal amounts of footage from XDCam HD 1080p/25 VBR and XDCam EX 1080p/25 VBR. Which of the two should I use as timeline format? What are the advantages of rendering to Apple Pro Res 422?

Thanks

We do a lot of XDCAM EX 1080P30 35Mb VBR and do all of our color correction using Color which can export ProRes. So all of our source material is edited in an XDCamEX sequence, once editorial is complete and it goes for finishing it comes back into as ProRes and into a ProRes sequence for output. So our source material has the smaller 35Mb VBR data rate but we end up with a quality 140Mb ProRes master.

We haven't done any XDCam HD, however, I believe it would work well to simply edit both formats in the same ProRes sequence. You shouldn't have to convert any of your source material nor should you have to render your timeline until output. Also if you use Color your conforming time is all but eliminated.

This would be easy to test.
