Small Pulse of Light at Start of Speed Change?

After making a change to the speed of a clip in the timeline, I noticed a small pulse of light at the beginning of the speed change (as though the exposure had maybe been raised by a stop for a fraction of a second).

Anybody know what causes this or how it can be resolved?

Thanks.
