cant get old cam to connect and some general q's

Hey everyone, just picked up fc7 and a jvc - hm-100.

First question is, I have a old sony dcr-pc5 with lots of old tapes that I want to edit, I recorded them in lp mode to be cheap and now other cameras won't play them right. The website says fc7 works with a dcr-pc1 but not a 5. Does anyone have any tricks? My canon zr950 works good with fc, but since my old dv tapes were recorded in lp and 16 bit mode, I need the heads of the sony to play them correctly. I could just buy another one I guess.

Also, could anyone recomend a good book or course for fc. The last nle I worked with was premiere 5, so its been a while but I love this stuff. I don't want to take a 900 3 day course, but apple has some nice online courses thru other people.

And last, I know the jvc hm-100 I have now works good with fc, and fc will automatically detect the best codec to use, but is there any tip or tricks to get the most from this camera, besides color correction etc.. which I'll be learning about,,, thank you all.....
