Re: Split Screen Effect

Clip 1 on Track 1. Apply Motion-Scale-50% and crop or otherwise mask to half the screen. Drag Stage Right
Clip 2 on Track 2. Apply same. Drag Stage Left.

Then decide if you want the soft edges, or other aesthetic effects and apply those as well.

Simple as that.

Re: Split Screen Effect

Obviously a lot of the effect here is done during the shoot, so as long as you are okay matching what is happening on both sides at the same time etc (and also shooting on the same settings, with the same light and so on) it should be quite easy.

You also need to consider that unless you want to squash the image (you probably don't) you should only be shooting with half the frame. It doesn't really matter which part of the frame but maybe even using the same half for both sides and taping over the area not used as a guide...

Then when you go into FCP, you place one video track above the other in the timeline, then crop the right side (if you shot on the left and covered the right) 50% or more and then reposition them and add filters for effect, as Bill said.

Actually, a quick youtube search brings this up: YouTube - Daily Video Tips - Final Cut Pro "Split Screen"

Re: Split Screen Effect

Inevitably there is an FCP plugin to do split screen. SplitScreen from CrumplePop works well & you just drag & drop the videos to where you want them. Products - CrumplePop: Master Templates for Final Cut Pro
