it's my first time so be gentle: 7D footage -> fcp7

it's my first time so be gentle: 7D footage -> fcp7

a buddy of mine shot 4 interviews with me using a 7D and fostex fr2 recorder.

my buddy took the footage and synch it up using plural eyes.

he gave me the synch footage, the "original" footage off the 7D and all the audio files.

i opened the synch footage in fcp7 and played the footage.

all was right at the beginning but the footage soon lost synch.

i checked under fcp7 item properties and the synched footage is labelled h264.

should my buddy have transcoded the 7D footage to prores before he pluralized the footage?

i do not want to re-synch all the "original" footage with the audio files.

how can i take the synched footage and transcode it to prores?

please be very specific about how i should get to transcode the footage.

please assume i know nothing because i know nothing.

did i mention this is my first time with 7D footage, so be gentle.

thanks in advance for any and all thoughts you care to share.

be well

Rob,
There are a couple ways to convert the sync'd footage to compressor. This is the way to do it in bulk without FCP involved:

Open Compressor
Drag and drop your files (using the Finder) onto the window called Untitled that looks like attachment #1
Using COmpressor Window Menu, open the window named Settings (command-3)
Untwist the preset compression settings as shown in attachment #2
Drag and drop the one called Apple Prores 422 on each file (Job) in your Untitled window
A faster way to do the above step is to select all the files (Jobs) in the Untitled window and leave them highlighted. Then drag and drop Apple Prores 422 onto the first Job. All the selected Jobs will get that preset dropped onto them
Click Submit and confirm you want to submit the job.

When it's done (I't'll take a while), you'll have transcoded files in the same folder as the originals but with longer names that include Apple Prores 422 in the name.
You can bring each one into FCP as usual

I'm not optimistic transcoding them will solve the sync problem. You can try it on just one file before spending the time to transcode all of them

les-

thanks for the effort.

i set-up compressor as you suggested.

i am 53min away from seeing if the 1st sequence transcoded to prores will work-be in sync.

be well.
