Re: Mac Keeper

You might want to read this. https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0

And if you google it you'll see there's lots of buzz. Didn't read much of it myself but I'd stay away. I started using FCP with version 3. Back then the common wisdom was not to put virus protection on your Mac if you were using FCP. Of course back then it wasn't really an issue anyway. Probably about a year ago, without thinking I installed some virus protection that my bank offered for free. Whether that had anything to do with my Mac Pro's FCP going south I don't know but probably about that time it did start acting up. A few weeks ago it got to the point that I wiped the drive and reinstalled everything from scratch. But only what I needed for editing. A real pain. This was after I periodically did various maintenance things to keep FCP moving. They helped but the issues always re emerged and got worse. 2 things made me take the plunge to wipe and re install. First and foremost the number of crashes and the inability to log and transfer but also when I upgraded to the latest version of FXFactory the installer spat out a message that I had a plugin that would prevent FXFactory from working. When I contacted their support I was told that this plugin was also not so good for FCP. Made me wonder what else I might have on my system.

All that said, I've never found FCP 7 to be as stable as either 3 or 5 ( I skipped 4 and 6) Maybe just my bad luck. I should also say that when I was researching the issues I had, I did read some posts from people more knowledgeable than me who said they had no issues with installing whatever on their Macs. Maybe just their good luck.

Re: Mac Keeper

Avoid MacKeeper. Just keep up with sites like MacRumors and you'll be aware of any serious virus issues with the Mac. My experience is that many virus/malware removal programs can mistake important software as viruses. This is certainly true with specialized Windows programs. On a Mac I haven't experienced this.

A good rule is that anything that is advertised frequently to you in spam popups is not something you want "protecting" your computer!
