What Compression???

I just finished a DVD project that was shot in HDV, down converted to SD, edited in FCP 5, then authored in DVD SP. The footage is about 2 hours in length and I burned to a double layer DVD. I exported using compressor for a SD 120 min DVD.

When I viewed the DVD on my 50" plasma, some of the resulting images were not very sharp and had some artifacting around them. Some of the images were very nice. Am I exporting the FCP project wrong? Should I be using something else other than compressor to get the best possible quality? I never really noticed problems when shooting SD but moving to HDV has got me confused.

Anyone with any suggestions on how my workflow should be done? How I should be importing the footage from the camera, editing, exporting, and authoring? Any specific settings I should be using for the best possible quality in the final DVD? Thanks!

Part of the problem is with watching SD on an HD TV.

I have better results with BitVice rather than Compressor.
