Importing audio files to FCP

Hi there,

I've recently been importing audio files from download on a PC to my mac, then importing them into FCP. When i play these tracks, either in I tunes, on my stereo player - or in the FCP viewer - the track is smooth and plays fine. HOWEVER, when i put these tracks on the timeline - underneath the visuals and diagetic sound and so on, the track begins to 'clip'. There is this constantly clipping throughout the track when played back. I render and it seems to make no difference. What is going on? Has anyone else had this problem? How can it be fixed?

Thanks again people, sorry to burden you with my ignorance!

Jack :)
