Loading mpeg2 into FCP HD
I have just upgraded to FCP 5.1.2 (new Mac etc) and have received some trial HDV clips shot on a Canon from a co-worker and have the demo disk with "Complete Guide to HDV" . All these files have the extension .M2t and will not open or import into FCP although they will open in Vegas. I have tried changing the extension to .mpg, .mp2, .mpg2 without success. Obviously I am missimg somethimg very simple, help please,
Thanks Ned Cordery |

Loading MPEG2
Perhaps it's well known but I have learnt that the files with the extension .m2t are mpeg transport streams that FCP will not handle and they have to be comverted to a format that will be accepted. This is easily done using a free utility available from www.squared5.com thanks to Maxplanar. The point that surprises me is that I can find no reference to this in the FCP manuals. However, problem solved
