Non-Mac User Question

Is Final Cut Pro (or other "standard" Mac apps) capable of capturing 4 channels of DV audio at once? I'm a PC user stuck with Adobe Premiere (which can't do it) and am thinking of converting to Mac. Not being able to get all 4 channels of audio at once in Premiere has always been a problem for me, and using other programs to do it really kills the streamline for my editing.

Thanks.

-Michael

Michael, I did a search on the forums and looks like you can. I haven't tried it personally, so perhaps someone else can hop in. I'm pretty new to FCP and not in front of my machine at the moment.

The latest version of QT and FCP supports 4 channels of audio capture.

I may be reading you wrong, if so, ignore this.

But if you've talking about 4 track recording mode in DV capture on a low-end camcorder, be careful you're not reducing your audio sampling rate from 48Khz down to 32Khz or lower.

Non DV standard (2-channel 48Khz) sampled audio has caused more timeline screwups among guys I've helped in the past 6 years than ANY other single problem.

(OTOH, if you're doing double system or something like A/D capture from Digibeta via SDI or Fiber Channel with concurrent 4-channel audio - then never mind!)
