Good H264 settings for 1920x1080 ?

Hi all,

After having used my Canon A1 for a couple of weeks now, I've tried unsuccessfully to export some footage as H264 at full resolution (1920x1080).
I'm using final cut express 3.5.1 (latest version) and I'm shooting at 30F (using AIC HDV 60i for importing).
The problem I'm encountering is the following: when playing exported movies in QuickTime Player I never get the full 30fps playback although the machine is like 50% idle (I'm on dual G5, 2.3GHz). I've tried bitrates between 8-12 Mbits/sec. I also tried decreasing the keyframe frequency (down to every 90frames) which seems to help as I then get higher fps during playback, but still I'm unable to achieve 30fps during playback.

What are the settings people use for H264 30fps 1080p ?

Any ideas?
Best Regards,
Dino

I output as QT Animation from my NLE. Then I use QT Pro to load that up and export as h.264. Works like a champ.
