Compressor: Bad encodes at DVinfo.net

Hey,

My compressor keeps spitting out bad encodes. The .m2v will open up in mpeg streamclip, but the numbers don't match up with the final cut project in terms of running time and my dvd_studio_pro project wont open. Could this have to do with any markers or in/out marks? Also, it seems not to be updating assets properly, so is this a file replacement issue? Has anybody had a similar problem?

For troubleshooting the issue you'd need to post more details: What version of Compressor/DVDSP? What type of encode are you making from Compressor? If MPEG-2 are you modifying the GOP structure? The more info you can provide the more help you can get. Also, since everything the Mac does in video is based on the Quicktime engine you should make sure you have the latest version of QT Pro.

Thank you so much for the quick response. I'm encoding mpeg2 at 6.2mbs vbr. These are re-encodes of an updated fcp project. I'm using dvdsp3 and compressor3. As it should work, dvdsp should update the assets with the re-encode, but I'm having files get corrupted. TRT doesn't match up between mpeg2 and the fcp project. I do have markers in the FCP timeline, so yes, I am modifying the gop sturcture. Is there is anything else I can let you know?

As I mentioned earlier, first make sure you have the latest version of Quicktime. The next step would be to create a new project in DVDSP4 (make sure you have the latest updates for all your Apple Pro software too) with the new encodes and see if the problem persists.

What I'm referring to about a modified GOP isn't your markers in the timeline but when you're doing the encode in Compressor you can go into details on the GOP structure and choose whether it's open/closed and how many frames the GOP is. If you've modified that inadvertently that would absolutely cause problems in DVDSP.

Try this stuff first.

I do have the latest version of quicktime, but the problem seems to be re-encoding the files without deleting the original encodes first. It seems that my g5 isn't replacing files correctly. Serves me right, I should have done this is the first place.
