How much bandwith for video hosting ?

I was thinking of getting a website to host my pictures and videos but I was wondering how much bandwith people on here use on their website that allow people to download videos. I was looking at https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hosti...5Fhdr=&ci=5652

The deluxe plan , would I be able to host videos with this ?

Easily. 1TB of transfer quota is very generous. I doubt you will have any trouble at all. 1TB per month means 34GB per day. That is enough to serve 50 feature films on DivX (700MB). Every single day.

Beside the quota, you have be sure that the bandwidth (the rate at which downloads are served) is sufficient. Ask them about that.

The bandwidth/data transfer issue is no easy one when hosting video. Bandwidth and data transfer cost money, and if you use a lot, it costs the web host a lot. If they offer cheap plans with high limits, it means they count on the fact you'll never use it all. If you do, they lose money and there will be trouble somewhere.

Low cost/high data transfer deals usually means the host may throttle your site's bandwidth or even temporarily disable it at random intervals if you do end up using a lot on a regular basis. Of course, they will not tell you about that until it happens - again, most hosts assume you'll never come close to using up your data transfer (most people don't). For the few sites that do pull large amounts of traffic, they usually take some sort of action. Check the terms of service carefully.

Watch for overage charge policies. If a big video file becomes popular (gets posted on Digg, Fark or the like), it can quickly use up all of your alloted data transfer. Some hosts may just disable your site when that happens, while others will just let the overage charges rack up without telling you (which can get into the thousands of dollars).

If somone ever finds a good deal on a high data transfer hosting package that doesn't compensate with throttling or reliability issues, I'd love to hear about it. I've cut way back on my publicly accessable videos because my current host has a 200GB/month limit, and I've gone over several times already. My brother also has a high traffic, high bandwidth site and he has had a nightmare finding an affordable host that won't throttle his traffic.

There is help out there

Hi,

As a web developer by trade and videographer by night I have more to do with the web than film but I can say that there are some good hosts out there that offer good b/width at reasonable prices.

The best around today is http://www.ipowerweb.com/ .

50gb for about $8 a month with all hosting, email, control panel and domain name thrown in.

Well worth a look, and they will upgrade you to 250gb for not a lot more!
