Making "SYNCHRO" the default Control Mode on the FS-5

I use an FS-5 on a Sony HVR-Z5. Therefore I must always record with tape running which is fine and preferred. However, I must use the SYNCHRO control mode rather than NORMAL or EXTERNAL. Which is fine. However, the FS-5 will always default to NORMAL control whenever it is turned on or comes back to life from a rest.

My question: Is there a way to set the the FS-5 so that it remains in the SYNCHRO control mode even if it's turned off or goes to sleep?
