2GB limit... or not?

I've been using my FS-H200 with the impression that both file formats (UDF and FAT) have a 2 GB file size limit - no major problem, all I have to do is stitch the files one after the other in my NLE. I always format my card in UDF.

BUT! Last week I shot an hour and a half long Christmas concert in 720P24 mode just to find one huge 15 GB file on the CF card, not broken up in small pieces.

This week I shot almost every day in good old 480i 4x3 NTSC (yes, 4x3 is still the norm in legal video) and recording in AVI Type 1 DTE format - and every single video is again broken up in 2 GB pieces.

So what's the deal? Is the limit from the AVI Type 1 format? Should I use AVI Type 2?

Would Canopus AVI make a difference? I edit in Edius so it would not create any issues...

I guess I could test myself, but I would like to first theoretically understand what I'm doing.

Thanks for the help,
