Yep, that's exactly what mine shows on the LCD too - while sending a signal to my HDTV! That message is just a reminder that the camera can't display to the LCD while simultaneously displaying to an external monitor via component.

So I think there's definitely something amiss with your camera, cables, or monitor input settings .... hopefully something simple and/or cheap to resolve. -->>>

Definitely isn't the settings or monitor input, because the FX1 connected to the same HDTV connection (I set them up side by side) outputs via component perfectly..... So it seems I've got a stuffed component connection on camera or the HD10 component cable could be kaput.

I mentioned this problem ages ago to JVC here and they had no idea - they assumed my HDTV was at fault. Oh well, another thing to chase up.

Tom, there's a method proposed by someone on this forum a year ago, and I used it successfully, to watch HD1(10)'s output *live* in full 1280x720 HD.

Simply connect the firewire output of HD10 into the D-VHS player like JVC 30000, and watch the HD out of the 30000's Component out.

The D-VHS player will introduce a 0.5 sec. delay (like any MPEG2 decoder), but otherwise the image is live.

The HD1-10 has many options available for component out. 1080i, 720p, 480i, 480p are menu selectable. Make sure the output you have selected is compatable with your HDTV. If that doesn't work, I would suspect the cable before the camera. It is true, you won't get a pic on the flip-out screen with external HD monitor.

Right! Thanks! That's actually how the HD1 was demo'd to me when I first saw it at the retailer, firewired to D-VHS player, 1/2 second delay etc.

Used the FX1 for 8 hours today on a short film: outside in the sun, inside in a dimly lit room, a "backroom" and more. NICE NICE NICE!

More soon, including some testing and side-by-side shots with the HD10.
