You'd be quite surprised at the quality of the video output from the iPod when connected to a TV. Before I bought one, I actually went to an Apple store and asked them if they had a TV that they could demo it on for me. They dug up one from the back and we hooked it up and I was sold right then and there. The iPod screen is 4:3 but it has a widescreen mode that plays back widescreen material letter boxed on the screen or TV. If the widescreen mode is not enabled it pans and scans. I've encoded a bunch of my DVDs to travel with on my iPod when I take the 6 hour flight to NAB in 2 and a half weeks :) I played a movie on the family TV set last week and no one noticed the difference. Of course there is a difference, and we trained video guys and gals can notice it, but the average joe who's used to broadcast and VHS more than likely will not.
