Hello. Ive been looking for information on the Viper camera. I mainly want to know how much does it cost. Can anyone tell me?

The viper was used in many movies, including its latest with Zodiac.

A couple of years ago, I read that it was between $75,000 - $80,000 for the camera and about $190,000 - $200,000 for a complete system. Of course, I'm sure that someone here knows the actual (and current) figures.

If you're wondering if a body could be had, used, for any less than about $50,000, the answer would be no. A usable system, with lenses and recording method (either Venom or SRW-1 deck) would be over $100K easily.

$200k for a new one with everything you'd need is not far from the mark.

And before you balk, remember that the only people that KNOW exactly are either rental house executives or the occasional owner/operator, both of which generally don't post here. Some of us however work closely with those sorts of folks, and have picked up info over time.

The Viper, along with the F900 and a few other rarified cameras are kind of in the range of "if you have to ask, you can't afford it".

Whoever guessed $200,000 was probably close, if not a little low. But prices are not advertised, so call Grass Valley to find out anything you need.

If you want to use Filmstream on the Viper you'd also need a recording system like S Two.

The overall cost of a kit will vary depending which route you want to go. If you're interested in buying a Viper kit the best way is to ask for a quote.
