Very new to all this, could use workflow suggestions (HDV)

Hello all!

Please take a sec to give some suggestions. I just got into video production/post production and have some trouble obtaining wanted results. I have read many posts here, other HD forums, and countless online research.

What I'm working with:
HDV 1080i and have been capturing the footage as .mpeg files using capDVHS. For NLE's using Vegas 7 and Premiere Pro 2 (mostly Vegas currently).

What I want to accomplish:
All I want too to do is compress my videos so that I could share them via internet, was thinking of .wmv or .mpg files. I'm trying to get small files at the best quality possible that can be retained from my original HDV footage. I'm looking at keeping my files at around 10MB per minute.

Firts played with PP2 for a weekend trying different export settings and got horrible results, moved on to Vegas and got better results but still only with large files. I'm getting the results I'm looking for at 30MB per minute at about a 4MB VBR.

Is there something else I can try, will a CineForm product like Neo HDV help me get my results?

Could really use some help form experienced users, I have over 60 hours of footage that needs to get worked on and this is what's holding me back. Btw, I am thinking of sticking with Vegas as I have found it very simple to use compared to Premiere.

Thanks!

And you want this at 1080 x 1920 ???

Check these out, and if they are near what you want, I will tell you how to get that out of Vegas.

Compressed at 640x480 seems to be used a lot.

Could someone move this post to the "High Definition Video Editing Solutions " section? Accidentally posted it here.

I make FLV files that are 720x405 (16x9) at 1000kb/s which look very good. That is about 8MB/min. I usually use the standalone Flash Video encoder that now comes with CS3, after exporting a compressed HD file from the timeline (Cineform, Matrox, or HDV)

Mike... I've attained really nice results by a similar workflow to yours. I add a step of taking my finished output (CFHD.AVI), into TMPGenc.

I then choose my framesize, deinterlace.... and output an uncompressed AVI for Flash Encoder.

TMPGenc is superior in both rescaling and deinterlacing... so the results have been very nice.

PS - your site is killer..... everyone should take note and go check it out!

Well, they are good quality vids but they are too big, I think I was able to get these same results also. You're vids are about 30MB per minute at 4MB VBR, that's not going to work for me.

Looking for around 10MB per minute with similar quality to vids like yours.

That's probably a good option if I want flash videos but for now I'm looking to share downloadable video files as .wmv, .mpg. or .avi files.
