Is (and where is) the DVHS capture utility in Panther?

In another thread, someone mentioned that Panther may have come with the DVHS Capture Utility? I tried a search for it in Panther, but no luck.

Any clues?

Thanks,

heath

Heath, Panther comes with the firewire drivers for those utilities, I think it does not come with them (virtual DVHS and DVHScap) though. I have not yet received my DP G5 so I have not yet tried Panther but my guess is they are not included. You can find them in firewire SDK18 from the Apple's develloper site.

All the best

Downloaded it, installed it, but...WHERE is it? What's it called, so when I do a search, I'll find it and put it in my Applications folder.

Thanks,

heath

It is located on your main drive, in this path: Developper/FirewireSDK18/Applications

Unless it appears elsewhere in Panther...

I couldn't find it in Panther...

What I need to know is, what's the application's name? Is this it:

DVHSCap.pbproj

Otherwise, I can't seem to find the actual application.

I'm dumb, yes.

I suggest you use virtualDVHS instead of DVHSCap (witch is DVHSCap.app by the way, DVHSCap.pbproj is a folder, maybe you are not doing your search right). The reason why you should use virtualDVHS is because of it's batch output capabilities.

By the way, DVHSCap.pbproj is located in this path: //Developper/FirewireSDK18/Examples/DVHSCap/DVHSCap.pbproj

Follow the path backwards to find the app in this path: //Developper/FirewireSDK18/Applications

It really should not be complicated

I figured it out: the DVHS Cap was coming up looking very similar to a AppleWorks file, and I thought it was another document. I did a search on the name and opened it. Bingo.

Why do you recommend one over the other? Are they both the same, with the exception of what you described?

VirtualDVHS as the option to loop a selected TS file out to tape/DVHS or to batch send all the TS files from a specific disk or folder, this is pretty handy. For the rest they are pretty close to one another

Thanks Eric. I feel dumb for not finding it earlier, but like I said, the DVHS Cap icon looked like an AppleWorks document.

Ah, well...Back to reading the fun post about HDVCinema...
