HDV/DV on same timeline at DVinfo.net

So, we've been shooting a movie on the DVX100A (in squeeze mode), but worked out a deal to get a free Z1 rental for a weekend and shot some stuff we'd like to use. What's the best workflow for combining the two on FCPHD? We've already captured without downconversion and don't have access to the camera anymore...Probably be for DVD out, though someday maybe film out too. We'll also be using Natress filters to help make filmic look match DVX. We'd like to get the best picture possible, though I know HD and DV can't be on the same timeline.

Any ideas?

You should first convert the formats to one common format. Either
DV or HD(V). This either means downsampling the HD footage or
upsampling the DV.

Depending on the market for your movie it's probably best to
down convert the HD footage to SD (letterboxed or anamorphic
squezed) and work in SD/DV from there on.

Why? Because there really isn't a market to distribute HD at this
point in time. If you need to go to HD out or to film you can always
load the project with the original HD files and get the best programs
algorithms possible at that point in time to upsample the SD
footage to HD as well.

If your output is SD or lower it will look better if you downconvert
the HD than if you convert the SD footage twice.

What's the best way to downsample, getting the best pic possible? Also, would you do your filters (Nattress, for instance, or other 24p conversions) before downsampling or after?

Hello,

Native HDV (.m2t) and DV can be mixed on the same time-line (pal & NTSC mixed too) à the same scmale - DV or HD - only with Edius 3 Pro on PC at this time. You can mix MPEG-2 SD with them

The software is amazing for that and all the effects are in real time at the full frame rate !

With a bi-Opteron you can get 4 layers in full frame rate with with Canopus HD CodecD effects or color corrections (full frame rate). With the NX Card, and daughter card, you get 1920 lines on an YUV video monitor.

Pleasant, isn't it ?
