Capturing TimeCode? at DVinfo.net

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but is there a way to capture the Data/Time Code when capturing HDV footage?

Very GOOD question Hse and I wonder why timecode questions never get answered. It seems Taboo?

Do most people not care about timecode or even use it when dealing with HDV? Do you guys use FREERUN timecode, ever? What about capturing only the 2nd half of a HDV minidv tape? Does anybody batch capture their footage?

I dunno, at times it seems like I'm the only one freaking out about lack of timecode support for HDV...but you can't make a movie without it. Script supervisors notes become worthless. And let's not even talk about the Offline to Online editing process.

Does the Cineform solution not capture timecode? Is the timecode not preserved when used in Premiere? I'm a lurker to-date not a user but I though I understood that timecode preservation was an established 'feature' ...

I do not know if Aspect HD handles timecode because I don't use Premier Pro.

However, I can confirm that Connect HD 2.1 did not import timcode at all to Vegas, and for some reason it's on the bottom of the priorities list to get it working in Prospect HD. David told me they have bigger fish to fry right now.

Premiere Pro 2.0 supports HDV with timecode. Final Cut Pro captures timecode in HDV mode. Batch capture works. HDVxDV captures timecode too, but it won't do batch capture.

Serious Magic HDV rack doesn't seem to capture usable timecode. FS-4 Pro HD does not capture usable timecode. And now it turns out that Cineform does not preserve timecode either.

Honestly, I'm surprised by the state of timecode support for HDV given that it's been almost over a year since I wrote this post: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthrea...threadid=39647 (about timecode in .m2t files). Granted, batch capture is something different, but HDV rack and Firestore could at least extract the timecode out of an .m2t file.
