LS300 Streaming Options

Hello. I shoot corporate drama using a wireless HDMI feed to a director monitor.

I've successfully got the View Remote functions working from my JVC LS300 (via a Edimax Wi-Fi nano dongle) to iOS devices. It's a low frame rate video feed which only fills part of the screen, but it does have the live timecode so that others on set can note timecodes and see roughly what's happening without crowding round the director.

What worries me most about using this function is that the camera setting can easily be accidentally altered via the remote viewer. If an iPad is connected to the camera and someone pick ups there iPad wrongly they might stop a recording, or alter an camera setting and I'd have no idea.

I've started wading throughout the manual, and the internet but perhaps someone here has real world experience of this stuff...

Does the Live Streaming function would suit my situation better?
Can the camera stream direct to a tablet or phone, or is some specialist server setup supposed to sit between the camera and end user? Would the timecode overlay be visible onscreen?

Cheers All.

Re: LS300 Streaming Options

A quick heads up.

It turns out that although VLC on my old iPhone was saying it wasn't connecting, it actually was.
I was hearing noises through the phone, and realised it was my mouse clicking only delayed.

I've had to reduce the frame size and bit rate all the way down and the playback is still very choppy.
I assumed my iPhone 4 wasn't up to the task so I tried VLC on a 2008 MacBook Pro and it worked well up to 720p. Setting the camera to 1080p crashes VLC quite a lot of the time, and if I push the bitrate to max it just about hangs on. Slightly choppy playback, but it seems to settle (again my old hardware might be the issue).

It seems like there no data overlay available on this streaming output, it's clean as you'd perhaps expect.

Seemingly the camera can only stream to one IP address/device at a time, but you can set up 4 'servers' and switch between them, so I've set the phone as 'Server 1' and the laptop as 2 then I can select where the live stream goes.

Whoa, you're way more IT oriented than me - that's the one function of this camera I will never use, but it is an interesting concept.
