With 10 bit 1080p output, I bet sales of the camera would triple!

I'd buy a second one for sure!

Yup. It's just 4k60p with low chroma sampling. No other improvements.
All my work ends up in 1080/25p, and I rarely use 4k so this is of no use to me.

Did not catch the details from the german reporter. When you say low chroma, less than 4.2.2, or less than 4.2.0?

We'll have to wait to the proper release to find out exactly what the firmware does, from what I gather via Facebook some assistance functions are disabled when running at 4k60p.

That German reporter said a lot and actually almost nothing, the only relevant info he gave was that the camera can output 4k 50p or 60p to a external recorder only and that it's going to be a free update, he also mentions that HDR is possible.

I understand the 4k/50/60p was presented in relation with Atomos Shogun Inferno. The Hdr is an Atomos feature, and their recorder offer a lot of tools - so it might not be critical if some are gone on the Ls300.

Re: New Firmware 2016 for LS300

The JVC sensor has been capable of 60p output. Now we know much of the signal processing logic is also 60p capable. I expect some of the data displayed/used at p30 must not be able to be computed at 60p.

I doubt the data path is 10-bits wide.

The question is, like 1080p60, what does one do with 2160p60 since p60 -- except for 720p60 -- is not of much value in a world where so much content is streamed. Today, 2160p24/p30 is the norm.

Of course, 60p can be used to provide a bit more than 2X slo-mo with a 24p timeline. But the 1/120th shutter speed is far different than 1/48th. With the clarity of 4K one would need experiment with the 60p shutter speed and the rate movement in the scene.

Did he say "500" when pointing to the camera with the huge lens?

4K at 60p would produce some fabulous slo-mo footage. No need to shoot at 1/120 sec shutter. 1/60 will look just as good and give you more light to work with.

Just adding my 2 cents to this thread, FOR SURE it is 8bit 4:2:0 4K 60p because that's the only chroma subsampling supported by current HDMI 2.0 sender chips for camcorders. We have to wait for HDMI 2.1 or for cameras to support Displayport before 10bit 4:2:2 4K 60p is possible. HDMI is holding up the industry for better chroma subsampling and higher bit depths.

At what time in the video do you hear him say that?
