QT component dead after QT update (Mac)?

Updated Quicktime to 7.4, now there's no finder preview of .TOD-files, QT can't open them and Final Cut Pro quits when trying to import a .TOD-file.
Worked before. Does anyone have the same problem?

Mac Pro 8-core, FCP 5.1.4, OS 10.4.11, QT 7.4

Thanks in advance!

QT 7.4 has broken almost every type of editing software.

Yeah apparently QT7.4's DRM has struck, leaving many unable to open Adobe projects at all!!!!

You can use Pacifist to roll-back to 7.3. Just google your problem.

Switched back to QT 7.3.1 via Pacifist and everything's fine again.

I tried it, it doesnt work.

I just got my HD7, this is becomeing a BIG headache.

BTW my HD7 was second hand and came without a software disc, anyone got a spare?

DOWNLOADED PACIFIST IT HERE BTW http://osx.iusethis.com/app/pacifist

With QT 7.3 loaded I still cant open any of the files. Is there something on the software disc that I must have to make this work? i'm convinced there is...

Yeah.
You'll have to go up to 7.4.1, since 7.4 really was a problem.

Plus you'll have to watch your ProApp and other toolkit updates as well -- not everything will play until those are installed too.

Basically you'll have to Update, restart, Update, restart, Update restart until Update says your computer won't Update no more...

Just went through the whole big headache, several times (I have 3 Macs at home and 12 at work).

In a nutshell, if you're on OS 10.4 then it has to be 10.4.11 and QT 7.3.1
If you're 10.5 then 10.5.2 and QT 7.4.1.

And then you go from there. (i.e. there may be other things to fix, but unless you start where I just said, nothing will work).

HTH
YMMV
Cheers
Chris

Honestly... I HAVE HAD BETTER DAYS. This has been really really time consuming and still not resolved.

I have OSX 10.4.11 running and QT 7.3.1 - You have at least given me some clues as to where to go from here but its all a bit shaky for my liking... thanks for your help though.

If this doesnt resolve for me very soon, I'll be selling on my HD7. May sound extreme but I have issues enough with having to convert files in the first place. I knew it was going to be more involved in regard to workflow but had NO IDEA it would be this difficult to even get started. Frankly, at this time 1.15 in the morning after a day of messing about on forums, internet pages on the matter and the all but useless JVC website, I wish I'd bought the Sony SR11 I had my eye on instead. Doh!

Several things you can try -

use iMovie and see if that program sees it. I've loaded feature films into iMovie and out again in frustration before...

Download and try the VLC Media Player. It's free and it will give you a good idea as to where your system stands. VLC usually plays where others fear to tread.

Also MPEG Streamclip is another free utility that should view and convert your files.

If neither of those work then I agree with you. Pitch the darned thing!

(ps/ It takes an average of two days to get this stuff going properly, and that's when you know what you're doing... :-)

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris, I use streamclip quite often as I have to convert files from my pc. Its not accepting them either.

Incidentally I can play them on my pc but not edit them. It is so hard without the basic software package to see whats wrong in all of this, but I will follow your two leads. I have bought additional kit for the HD7 which hasnt even arrived yet but really will sell it on in a day or so if this doesnt resolve. JVC are to blame in this matter. To shut out mac users in this way is baffling.

JVC has released a patch for the Everio Quicktime component: http://www2.cli.co.jp/products/ne/up...c3e_update.htm
Works on my system (Mac Pro 8-core, 10.4.11, QT 7.4.5). Also works on a PPC Quad.

thanks Andreas, I can see the problem is that I dont have the original software as that plug in targets "QuickTime Component for Everio bundled with Everio". that I don't have and am endeavouring to get. I bought the cam second hand and the seller didnt provide it. JVC don't open on the weekends so cant get it from them just yet. None of my appeals online have turned one up (thought it would have been an available download)
anyway i'll write an update when I get that. For now, I will give up. it'll be mid week before i can get a replacement disc.

If you will edit with iMovie 08 -- you no longer need to convert files with MPEG Streamclip!

That's why I wrote the my iMovie 08 Guide. No more long hours of conversion where MPEG is transcoded to AIC! No huge files!!!

It's too bad the information on using MPEG Streamclip is everywhere and everyone still believes it is true.
