Allan has already done a "review" on it, and posted here. The Japanese NTSC version should be the same cam as the North America version---maybe just a tad stripped down.

The "store" seems to be a mailorder "direct from Japan" website with NO RETURN.

And, where is the review posted?

Well, it wasn't a full blown review but rather a first impression. I too am interested in reading more about these 2 new cams. I have to try and keep an open mind---besides, I own 2 older JVC 1 chip cams and still use them most of the time. (GR-DVL9500U)

Sorry, I've never written any reviews of any cams yet. All my posts are just impressions based on actual "playing around" with cams, which anybody in Tokyo can easily do anytime they want and as much as they want (within the store's business hours of course). I sometimes add in some technical info which are only available in Jap sites (like to lux thing).

As regards the HD1 or HD10, IMO the only way anyone can make a "legitimate" review of these cams is to rent them or own them first. It is also a must to have a good HDTV, the appropriate NLE software installed in your PC, and perhaps a D-VHS deck.

No disrespect to those who claim to have written "reviews" of these cams, but what I consider as good reviews are those that inform things that CANNOT be found in Jap websites. I think Frank G. referred to those as the "beef" or something...

Regards

Allan, there must be reviewes of this camcorder in Japanese magazines. Could you possibly check this out and and let us know. What do they have to say about the color, poor low light rating, editing software, etc. When HD10 will be out, and will the color be any better?

This thread and in part this particular forum leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm a fairly savy old guy who's BS detector is going crazy. While I'm sure there are elements of truth there's an awful lot of selling going on here.

I've got the Video Salon STORY. But no REVIEW yet because that typically won't hit news stands until 2-3 months after product availability.

The HD10 will ship sometime in July.

The HD1 should be shipping now -- yet I've not heard of one being available for sale.

One might speculate the "tuning" done for the HD10 is also going to be in the HD1. Which would cause it to slip -- perhaps until July.

That would make the USA model different from the Japanese model. Which is why I wouldn't buy an import.

Of course, the Japanese model may be getting the mods which means Japanese reviews might be delayed.

All this is why I'm waiting for the shipping USA product before speculating on image quality.

Hello and thank you for your inquiry:

We are located in New York, however the unit is shipped directly from
Japan to the buyer. We do not operate out of a storefront as we are an
online supplier, therefore we would not be able to show you the actual
unit. There may be a small duty tax charged upon delivery which will be
billed to you on a later date by DHL. The units we are offering are
Japanese models.

Cordially,
Briant
