3 models of hd 100?

"JVC's first ProHD models, to be demonstrated at NAB 2005 and delivered in the months afterward include the revolutionary GY-HD100U, GY-HD100E and GY-HD101ED 3-CCD camcorders and the BR-HD50U and BR-HD50E ProHD recorder players."

So the if U and E models are NTSC/PAL, what's the 101ED?

Possibly for the Chinese market? Either way I wouldn't give it too much thought. Buy the one that's sold in your country.

I was kind of hoping it might be a dual format NTSC/PAL version. Living in Asia, you've got Japan and Philippines on NTSC, Most of the rest of Asia on PAL.

I've done productions that needed both. That's kind of why I'm jazzed about 24p. You can easily make an SD versions for NTSC or PAL as needed.

It might be the camera with the add on hard disk recorder included as a package.

Could be that, too. I'm sure we'll get clarification soon enough.

A UK article implied the E version was dual format. Could be wrong, or all models are dual format. the main dif being the PAL version supported 25p and output 108050i. Be nice to have, but you are right, 24p can easily be converted to anything.

The Dual model fits with what I know from JVC.

If all HD100 were dual, that would make it really cheap for us Europeans to import them from the U.S. with the dollar as low as it is now. I hope JVC make it that way.

Steve, if you are right and all models are dual format, that is going to weigh very heavy on my decision.

I'm about to be at a rare time when I can actually afford to buy the camera and equipment I've been wanting. And upgrade to Vegas 6 and maybe a new powerful computer.

I'm just waiting and watching.

Another thing... I have absolutely no problem using tape. If you prep your tapes (PreBlack, then rewind) one should have little problem with them. Tape is proven technology that the manufacturers know how to deal with. I'm totally for going to HDD or P2, but the current cost of those options (firestore, P2 what ever) could go toward a good lighting kit and maybe even a field audio recording kit. Or a VTR...or what ever.

Hi Joe (or anyone else who can fill me in)

You mention preping your tapes (preblack, then rewind)... can you explain how much of the tape to "preblack", how to do this, and what it achieves?
