Timelapse on FS-4 Pro

Does anyone have an FS4-Pro that could comment on how the timelapse feature works?

Because we are talking about a camera that outputs a compressed MPEG2 stream, to tape any timelapse feature would have to capture a minimum number of frames = 2 x frames in a GOP to guarantee a stable still image on the exact frame you want (unless you capture directly off the camera head which the FS-4 doesn't)

Does it do anything tricky in software to address this or does it simply record 24 or 30 frames every time it reaches a preset interval? Or does it simple not start recording until it recognises an I frame?
