Camera Process Settings/Viewing Results

Sorry to be a burden on your time folks, but are there any links or documents I could read relating to setting the scene files up?
I've played around with the various scene files posted up here (manually unputting them so as to get used to the process) but some of the items I'm posting I have no idea what their function really is; it doesn't help much that the LCD monitor barely registers these changes (which are obviously more subtle than ND filters/Gain/shutter speed alterations).
Knee clips, RGB rotations and Black stretch are a little bewildering to me at this stage but I want to whizz up that learning curve like Miguel Indurain on a good day.
I should really invest in a monitor but my budget is about to be obliterated by the inclusion of an apple mac and FCP...might it be a good idea to bag a cheap used one off ebay?

Many thanks.

OK...I think I have Black Stretch and Knee understood:

Quote:
Black stretch is a control that allows either compression or expansion of the bottom end of the picture, the dark areas. Knee does exactly the same thing, except it affects the highlights at the top end.
