I don't think that there is a good B/W LCD VF available. So, you'd likely have to return to a tube to get the hi rez that you want at the price of size, weight and power consumption.

I have to say, a good colour VF is really priceless. I once shot a project with Betacam SX, which was equipped with a colour VF and it was wonderful. I am not sure if it was a tube of LCD, probably tube. The point really is that the B/W is really a relic of a past technology limitations. The current HD100 VF is crappy, no question about it. But if the camera was equipped with a VF only as good as the one used on the Z1U - it would be really nice. Higher quality would be even better. There is no way that the VF, even if it was hi rez B/W would be adequate to judge focus in HD. If focus is so critical, there is no substitute for a larger size HD monitor.

Oh, and hey, the "crazy" wasn't personal...:-)

The problem is cost. I'm sure it costs more to make a colour VF vs a BW one for he same resolution. Would you rather the HD100 have a high res BW VF that you could focus properly with or a colour VF that you can't?

Of course in a perfect world we would have a full res colour VF ;-)

I take the "perfect world" any day - if it ever becomes available, that is. Hey, maybe RedOne? ...:-)

Hi Carl,
Yes I love my HD100. McKinney is a small town. How many are there of us?

I don't know frankly.

If you'd like, please send me your contact info via e-mail to carlh@jvc.com. Sometimes I hear from people who are looking to hire a shooter with a HD camera.

Regards, Carl
