Differenec between pulldown and progressive play

Hi All;
I wonder if anyone can explain the difference between the JVC BR HD50U
24p and 30p play and being able to access and record 24p and 30p to and from the Sony HVR M15 deck. Other then the fact that the JVC deck can phyiscally play the 24 and 30p and the Sony cannot. Are they both the same in terms of capturing a 24 or 30p clip to HDV tape and then bumping that tape to an HD format. And I'm not interested in if this is the best method. I only want to know which of these two deck will do this best or are they more or less the same.
thanks
Jack
