HM100 record mode

Hi all,

I've looked through the posts in the HM100 forum, but can't seem to find an answer to my question, perhaps because it's such a simple question no one needs to ask it.

I'm a Canon user, and need to instruct another videographer on using the HM100 for a shoot. The footage from the HM100 will be mixed with the Canon XF100.

With the XF100, I'm shooting NTSC 1920x1080 50mps 60i. The client has requested PAL footage if possible (impossible with the XF100, but they said they will convert it). I think the JVC HM100 shoots both PAL and NTSC, correct?

If that's the case, which PAL settings should the videographer with the JVCHM100 use?

Any advice really appreciated. Apologies if this question has been asked before!

Many thanks,
Elissa

Re: HM100 record mode

Hi Elissa,

the HM100 can indeed be set to PAL- and NTSC-countries. If you want to use PAL, set it up to "50Hz".

You will have two options then, first to run it in 720P50, second to run it in 1080i/50 mode. My personal preference is 720P50. However it depends on your othe footage.

You have also to select the record file system to either Quicktime (MOV) format or to MP4 format. The first one is preferred for Final Cut Pro, the latter one is better for Avid Media Composer.

Re: HM100 record mode

Hi Joachim,

Thanks so much for your answer! I don't have the camera (HM100) in front of me--could you please explain how to switch it to 50z? Is there a switch somewhere on the outside of the camera?

Thanks in advance for any guidance :)

Re: HM100 record mode

I don't know about the switch from PAL to NTSC but I just checked with the videographer and these are the current settings:

System select - 1080 50/25
Rec Mode 1920/50i (HQ)

Final product is a short package for an NGO. Would this work for PAL and would these be ideal settings?
.

Thank you!
