I meant it in the same way that I'd like to pay $1,000 for a new Ferrari, or $2,000 for my own island country, but these are perhaps not realistic prices considering the costs of producing a Ferarri or the supply and demand issues about island countries ;-) Don't sell yourself short - you can always lower a price if it's not selling etc etc I find offering a set price including shipping world wide helps in generating international orders - those people with weaker currencies really appreciate the gesture and the extra shipping costs that you absorb are minimal compared to the extra sales (postage of a dvd from the UK is about $2 to Australia or the USA, compared with $1 within the UK). Either way I will be the first to order so get it out!!!! ;-) |

i'm interested in the HM100 as my first HD camera. I'm also very interested in others such as the panasonic hpx171, the hm700, sony ex1 etc but due to the state the economy is over here in Spain, the cheaper the better as long as the quality is good enough. i've owned a sony pd170 for years and i've used it for all types of work, documentaries, institutional videos, national tv reports, weddings, concerts etc....pretty much a bit of everything. i have not needed HD or hdv for that matter as my clients have been happy to pay less and live with DVpal. i see that now is the time to change. i'm hoping the hm100 is a camera that i can use in all the situations i've mentioned above, i maybe wrong. right now i need to keep costs down so the hm100 appeals but i realise it has limitations. my problem is whether there are ways around those limitations. whether this camera will do for 2-3 years until the super cameras of the near future become available! so what's this got to do with your DVD? well, if the video was only aimed at beginners, documentarians and wedding /event videographers i probably wouldn't be interested. if it was to include those areas and look into how the camera could be used in more advanced or controlled settings, think music videos, videos prepared for after effects post, indie cine(how it performs with 35mm adaptors), then i might well be interested. of course that would really depend on samples, reviews and price. as far as i'm concerned, 30€ (whatever that is in dollars) would seem reasonable to me. but once again, i'm not a beginner (although with HD i am) and i'd need to know that i was spending my money on something that i could get a lot out of , not just stuff i could figure out after a few days with the camera. as far as brands go, i wouldn't pay anymore just because something is branded. anyway, these are just my thoughts. i hope they are of some use to you. ps- am i right to think this camera could fulfil my needs? |
No more than $39.95 for 100/700 DVD.

Hey Tim,
Any news yet? I just got my HM700/with the 14x and I'm dying to get my hands on your new tutorial for the 700....!!!! From everything I've read about your past work, I know I can expect this DVD (/series?) to be gold!! Please keep up the fantastic work. Steve (Just Starting out Junior Class Videographer) Nordahl Bethlehem, Pa. |
SD DVD for me, only because I may need to use it on my Mac.

One question I thought of recently for the tutorial: Would there need be a different set of settings shown for the Fujinon and Canon lenses that the HM700 comes with? I mostly ask as I have Fujinon glass for mine, and I would presume the two do not give the exact same look to the sensor.
Have Fun, Jim. |
Any Further updates on Tutorials?
Do we have a target date for release?
|
Likewise, two weeks until I'm off to Africa, and I've had no time to practice with the camera, so relying on the dvd/downloads to get up to speed quickly - so getting desperate ;-)

ProHD Shooters Guide to the GYHM100 on ebay!
I see it's now available from Tim on ebay.
Cheers, Vaughan |
The website went live yesterday and the official announcement will be made soon.
Those ebay listings have been posted by my brother (who is handling sales and promotion) in an attempt to reach potential customers not aware of dvinfo.net. |
Make standard DVD's but provide code for online 1920 HD download
Compress to h264 and track your downloads by code.

BD would be great.
Just bought a Blue-Ray player. It would be great to see in HD.

I'm still leaving the option open. It would probably not be viable to mass produce in Blu-Ray but I might duplicate 50 or so for those interested.
|
Having recently got myself a PS3 I would also now be interested in a Blue Ray version instead than a PAL one.
have fun, Jim. |
Tim, do you know when the DVD for the HM700 will be ready? I am really looking forward to it, as I am considering this camera.
Thanks Svein Rune |
DVD for me please!
Tim - I would buy this DVD tomorrow if it were available. We just took delivery on a 100 & 700 with another 700 coming soon. We REALLY need this DVD!

That makes two of us....Schedule?

DVD Tutorial for the JVC-HM700U?
I know this was promised by Tim quite some time ago, and we have had a few updates from him here and there, but the HM700 series has been out over a year now (February 2009).... And now a new version of the 700 is out (790) and the prices are dropping on the original units. Not even JVC has a tutorial out for the 700???
I was just wondering, I've had my 700U for just over a year. Is there any word on whether the tutorial DVD is going to be made available in the very near future? Does anyone know of a comprehensive one on the market? I'm not trying to be facetious here...but it's been over a year... I have been thumbing around with this thing, and I have tried to figure out all the inner workings and settings, but without the guide, it's like trying to read a book in total darkness... Sorry for the vent, but can we have some positive news??? Steve Nordahl Bethlehem, Pa. |
Hi Steve,
I know I owe you all an update to the ETA of "The Complete Guide to ProHD Volume 2." The current status of the HM700/790 DVD is that the HM700 portions are "in-the-can" but I have not yet had time to even touch a demo HM790. My apologies for this. I know many of you have been waiting for a long time now. The original release date was delayed as soon as we caught wind of a "new 700 series camera" on the horizon. Unfortunately for our relatively small HM700 community the tutorial project is a 'labour of love' and not a 'money maker' from any sort of business perspective. This means that there are no additional resources available to commit to the project other than my personal time. The business manager of my own company prefers me to work on the projects that produce a revenue stream, and the explosion of interest in 3D since last year has had an unexpected impact on my professional life. My current dilemma is that 90% of my time since last summer has been taken up with stereoscopic 3d production and software development. I try to dedicate the rest to my wife and kids and the leftover to DVi. We finally just released version 2 of Stereo3D Toolbox yesterday so after a couple of speaking engagements this month I will finally have some free time to revisit the HM700/790 tutorial project. Typically I will order 500-1000 DVDs to be replicated. Our experience with Volume 1 has shown that there isn't a huge market for these DVDs and as a result I have at least 600 units of Volume 1 sitting in storage. Therefore I've decided that Volume 2 should be released as a Blu-Ray and we will duplicate a short order (probably under 100) instead of replicating a large order. This means the cost of each unit will be higher but the benefit will be full 1920x1080p resolution (which the whole video was shot in.) So I ask that those waiting please be patient. If things go as planned I will shoot a section on the HM790, author the Blu-Ray, and have them in your hands by the end of July. Thank again for your interest. |
Thanks for the news Tim...Looking forward to seeing the results of your effort.
Turns out good timing on on my part, Just got the BR Player last week, waiting for the Mac Burner to arrive. Steve |
Thanks for the update Tim, I look forward to ordering the guide when it's ready.
Have Fun, Jim |
Dead?
Has the HM700 Guide been trashed or did I miss the chance to order one?

Special Request
I am the proud owner of both a hm100 and hm700 camera pair. The hm100 tutorial that Tim put together took me from an average shooter to a "professional" designation. It was a terrific DVD and I may have been one the first people to purchase it (got it on ebay!) I purchased all the accessories Tim recommended.
The hm700 is a far more capable camera and I know that I am not using it to its full capability. Tim, would you consider wrapping it up in it's present form and releasing it on DVD so we can get to it. I am willing to pay more for this. I also think that JVC should sponsor the tutorial and give it away with camera purchases because they have very little in support material for this unit compared to Canon or Sony. Blue ray is problematic for me and many others who work with DVD based workflows or have Macs. The tutorial tends to go with the Camera and play on the laptop. Even a large digital download would be better than Blue Ray. Let me emphasize that I realize the community of users is small and the profit potential for this tutorial is not huge and to this end I would be willing to pay much more for this tutorial because of it's value to me. Yours truly, Dan Thomson |
HM700 DVD Tutorial
I too have been waiting anxiously for this DVD for almost a year now. And I would also be willing to pay a premium to get my hands on it. Please Tim, we know you're probably spread thinner than a french crepe on a hot griddle, but I know there are a lot of us out here who just need a little guidance from the master.
|
I'll add my pleas to the chorus...
The stuff I've seen has blown me away, and I feel that the content of this DVD could take my work to the next level of quality. I appreciate all of your contributions here Mr. Dashwood. Your posts helped me separate the wheat from the chaff and the truth from the hype when I was looking to upgrade from my 12 year old XL1, (just as Chris Hurd's post to the Old Watchdog helped me make THAT decision over a decade ago.) $60 or more. Doesn't matter. Like so many folks here, it will be worth it to me. |
Count me in as well. I've been waiting for this DVD since I purchased my HM-700 last spring. I have the one for the HM-100 and it's fantastic.
|
DVD or Blu Ray for me. I just bought a PS3 and have it connected with HDMI, looks great.
|
Where's Tim?
It has been many months since we have heard from Tim on this thread.
I am another new 700 user (well, I was when this started) who would really appreciate the availability of this product at whatever price makes it work for Tim. On the other hand, if the world has turned so far that producing it no longer makes sense...then it would be nice to know that too. |
me too....
Love the camera, but would like to know more about the settings and how to use them more effectively... any update? I too have the previous DVD but would love an HM700 disc.
|
Re: Tutorial DVD or Blu-Ray?
In a few months it will be a year since we heard from Tim on the HM700 Tutorial and two years since introducing the concept. Doesn't look like there is any interest in completing the project. Does anyone know of another resource?
|
Re: Tutorial DVD or Blu-Ray?
What happened to the GY-HM700 Tutorial DVD? Did I miss something on the thread? Did Tim Dashwood make an announcement that he was not producing the DVD after all...or was there just not enough demand for it? Sure like to know what happened, as he had talked about it for some time and had even projected a tentative completion date for it. Was looking foward to buying it.
Does anyone know of another source for tutorials on the camera? So many questions.... |
Re: Tutorial DVD or Blu-Ray?
I've had my HM-700 over a year and a half now, but I'd still buy Tim's DVD no matter what the price. However, I think Tim has abandoned us for the 3-D world! I wish him the best but maybe he could take what he's done so far on the HM-700 DVD and pass it on to someone else to finish.
