Mixing Tapes>>>

In the past with other cameras, I used to use different brands of tapes with the same cam, but I have read in places that its not a good idea to change them, right? with my GL2 I use sony, would switching to Panasonic brand of tape be a bad idea?

Hi Matt,

If you do switch tape brands, it is important to do a head cleaning in between. The general advice is that it doesn't much matter which brand of tape you use, but it is simplest to just stick with one.

Sony tapes are good, just formulated differently than Panasonics. So unless you have a particular reason to switch brands, such as sharing tapes with a colleague, there's no need to do so. But if you do switch, make sure to use a Sony head cleaner tape, or get the heads professionally cleaned, before putting in a different brand of tape.
