To keep a tape in the camera - or not

Is there any documented advice on whether it is better for a camera to be carried around/transported/stored between shoots with or without a tape inside?

When the tape is in the transport, the tape door is open, exposing the tape to dust and possible contamination. This is mitigated by the quality of the seal around the tape transport door. But over a long term, I wouldn't recommend it. Short term, no big deal.
