Is playback bad for heads

Hi, after shooting something, does rewinding the tape and then press play to view the previously recorded footage is using camera's heads ?

Anytime you record or playback in the camera, you are using the heads. But, they are made to last thousands of hours.

Just to share....I bought a HI8 back in 1999. The head went bad in 2001. Lucky it was till under my exteneded warranty.

Haven't used it since early 2005 thats when I made the jump into the HDV world.

Not bad, 4 years. I guess I don't use mine enough, as I have never had a head failure. Well my own yes, but not a cameras! :)
