Good software to capture with??

Hiya

I've been editing DV on my PC for a year now and have become really sick of the way Premiere often loses communication with my camera in between capturing shots. I only use Premiere for capturing, I edit in After Effects.

This and other preimere annoyances have led me to wonde if anyone knows of a good software tool for capturing DV?

I don't want to have to download and install a whole new editing package, I just want a small, simple capturing program that has been tested and is reliable so it won't mess up my system or capture to dodgy files

PS... If you want to know why I hate premiere with a passion, we can discuss it on a different thread!!!

I use Scenalyzer and it works 100%, 100% of the time. It allows you to capture footage using either optical or timecode detection, print back to tape, extract stills, and a bunch of other useful little things. For the grand price of US$33 you can't afford not to have it.

I have Premiere and the Matrox card.

I have never tried to capture from Premiere... I have always used Matrox for capture.

Didn't your capture card contain some sort of capture software?

Doug, a lot of people (including myself) just have a basic firewire
card. We don't have a full blown capture card (which is usually
only used for realtime effects or analog capture). Those basic
cards don't come with a "capture" utility. Scenalyzer is good
indeed. Vegas 4 comes with their own capture utility which you
might be able to use from the demo?
