time lapse

anyone know a way i can use my xl1 and my laptop to record timelapse?
i figured, it would make more sense to plug a camera into a computer via fire wire and have the computer take a frame every minute or so than to record a whole hour, and then capture the whole hour, and remove most of the frames.
is there a program that does this?
many thanks,
alex

Doesn't the XL1 have a timelapse feature or was this only the XL1S?

The well known capture program www.scenalyzer.com seems
to support this, a google search also turned up www.istopmotion.com

I did a google search on: dv time lapse

the vx1000 has a cool time lapse recording od a half a second every minute. I have found running this footage at 1000 percent looks really good.
