Color correction/editing speed ?

Hi,
I have a quick question. I am importing a VCR analog tape through the black magic capture card. This is a tennis video. The color is way off. My question is when or how should I adjust for the color issue? The easiest way is to color correct at the beginning then I only have to correct the color once. Before I start breaking up the clip. But when I do that my computer runs really slow. So this option does not work very well. Then I thought that maybe I should color correct at the very beginning and then export the clip via Virtual Dub and then open a new project and import the Avi file. This would probably work fine at least in theory but very time consuming.
So, my question is is there a better/ faster way? I am using Premiere Pro CS3.

Thanks,

John Gerard
