Giving these parts to my local computer guy for assembly. What do you think? Not sure what case would be best with this setup. Any suggestions? And, am I missing anything?

Many thanks --

I don't have all of the names of the cases on hand. But I can tell you is that while that setup is workable, I'd strongly recommend getting a couple of extra hard drives.

What NLE will you be using? If Adobe PPro CS5, I'd make sure to get either the Professional or Ultimate version of Win7 so its usage of RAM isn't limited, and I'd spring for 24GB of RAM.

You'd also benefit from additional hard drives; at LEAST one RAID setup to get better throughput for multiple stream of HD would be beneficial. If you're at your budget limit, there'd be no harm in getting a lower capacity SSD for your OS/Programs drive. 120GB should be plenty.

EDIT: For your RAID, some folks have reported troubles using the WD Caviar Black drives in some RAID configs.
EDIT again: Also, make sure it is the 64 bit version of Win 7 in your order.

James is this for CS5? If it is, it will be fine for HDV, but you should step up to RAID 0 for HD. Also, you'll need Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate to avoid a RAM restriction.

Edit: What Pete said.

Thanks for the replies guys --

Running Vegas 10 and plan to get CS5 soon.

I have an external raid enclosure (raid 0 - 1TB x 2) that I use via esata. And two other 1TB esata drives as well. Maybe I should put a couple those drives inside?

What are the ram restrictions with Win7?

How about cooling for the CPU?

Any other thoughts on a good case that doesn't look like it was beamed down from the mothership? ;-)

Thanks again --

I see. You do not need another internal hard drive right now.

As for the Windows memory (RAM) limits:

All 32-bit versions of Windows 7 are limited to 4 GB maximum. (Sure, you can install more RAM, but Win32 can only make less than 4GB available for use.)

For 64-bit versions of Windows 7:
- Home Premium: 16 GB
- Professional or Ultimate: 128 GB

I've been running Win7 64 bit and was aware of the 32bit limitations. I was not however aware of the limitations of the different 64 bit variants. Thanks for the info.
