For anyone following this - I determined that one of the WD drives was a bad drive, so that's why the Marvell RAID0 format/setup went bad.

I took this as an opportunity to change my mind about adding an SSD drive, so I swapped out the bad WD Black drive for an Samsung 840 250GB SSD to use for the OS drive. The tiny drive seems to run very nicely! Windows installed in around 20 mins.

Thanks again for all the help folks. Will do the benchmark test on Harm's site once I finish with updates/installs.
