Audio latency

What is the best way to test for excessive audio latency on my system and to correct for it? I am running Production Studio CS5 and have a Mackie Onyx Satellite audio interface with KRK Rokit 5 monitors. I've also tried simple speakers directly off the onboard soundcard and it still appears that there is latency.

Thanks.
