firewire ports on windows XP home?

I tried putting in my firewire ports several times and each time it doesnt work.I had the same ports with my previous computer with windows 2000 and it worked perfectly.If this helps I have an HP pavillion xt963

Could you be more specific? Firewire and windows can fail in a lot of different ways, and "doesn't work" really leaves the door open. What does happen, what doesn't?

when i look at find hardware and go to firewire ports it says its not there

is this when you install your 1394 card you don't see it listed under device manager ?

or is it when you plug in a 1394 device ( camera, hard drive) ?

you might try moving the 1394 pci card to a different slot . sometimes they don't work well if they are below the video grahphic card or in the last slot ...
