Any way to output to a CD R without creating an AVI file?

From Vegas Video 3, is there any way to burn from the timeline to a CD-R, just like you do to tape, without first rendering the entire portion you wish to burn to a file (AVI, MPEG, etc)?

I don't think this is possible, since even to tape it will have to
render the portions needed. Everyone just ouputs/exports/renders
the sections they need and burn that to CD.

I don't know of any other way.
