MXF differences

I have had to deal with getting data from P2 cards into Vegas, which I understand handles MXF files. I subsequently learned that it doesn't support "Panasonic" MXF files. So off to plan B.

My question: why are the formats different if the point of the format is to be a standard? Why can an NLE edit, say, Sony MXF but not Panasonic MXF?

Any all enlightenment greatly appreciated.

Ciao,

marks

There are variants on the MXF container. Not all programs support all the variants.
