Lens question

Not sure if this is the best place for this, but thought I’d try. Working with the Canon HF100 (nice little AVCHD camcorder). Unfortunately, manual focus for this model is troublesome, as it is menu driven, rather than any sort of physical dial. I was thinking that I might be able to get around this by using an adapter ring and attaching a lens to give greater control on zoom and focus. Good idea / bad idea? Anyone have recommendations? Several of the crew members are photographers, and have numerous lenses, but as I’ve never tried, I’m not sure if that even works.

Any and all help is always appreciated.
