Finding spare batteries for Samsung VP-HMX20C

Has anyone bought non-ridiculously priced batteries for their Samsung HMX20C? I have found many sites offering ones with the same model number as the Samsung originals (IA-BP85ST), but most of them stating "These are not compatible with the HMX20C". For some reason.

Then I find one site claiming compatibility, ordered them, only to find the camera acts as if I've inserted a brick or other such inert object. No charging light comes on when connected to DC power, and certainly no activity when I press the power switch on the camcorder.

So they're going back.

Anyone have more luck than me? I don't fancy spending the £50 for actual Samsungs. Oh, and they'll need to ship to the UK, obviously.

Cheers!

Spare batteries for Samsung camcorder VP-HMX20C

Hi Phil
I am having the same problems. I have had two batteries one from Hong Kong and one from Germany. Both make claims that their batteries are compatible but neither worked. Its not worth sending the one back to Hong Kong . I did contact the German Company and they expressed a wish to have the battery returned, as yet I have not had a reply. Will let you know what their is reply if and when I get one.
I have not been able to find out the diference betweena SC-HMX20C and the VP-HMC20C. I assume one battery is compatible with both?

SC = NTSC
VP = PAL

Both probably take the exact same battery, but clearly, they either made some subtle change to the old battery, or the copies that are about, that work fine with the older cameras, are not perfect copies, and this is only proving to be obvious now.

And yes, let us know if you get success.

I have taken the leap of faith and ordered a pair myself. I'm sure they won't really be the capacity they state, but we'll see. I'll test them as compared to the (still quite new) real original that came with the camcorder.

Thanks Roy!
