Just watch out your go-zintas and go-zoutas. The WD device only has HDMI and composite connectors. If you drop to composite you are losing what you are trying to gain with an HD workflow. If the projector doesn't have HDMI ...

That's true. Not all projectors have DVI or HDMI. The OP didn't say which projector he has so that's a good point.
